About Central Point

Discover Central Point

Imagine living and working in a small city that is surrounded by vineyards and orchards reminiscent of Sonoma or Napa. The city of Central Point, founded in 1852, sits at the crossroads of major highways running north and south, east and west (thus the name) in the heart of the Rogue Valley. It is one of those cities in southern Oregon that offers hometown quaintness but is also the gateway to some of the most beautiful destinations in the state.
The downtown area features antique shops, great coffee houses like Central Point Perk and Crater Café, and barbecue at Mary’s BBQ Place, second to none. So, you have the kids today. No time for coffee, you’ll be dropping them off at Anhorn Field for baseball practice, or Central Point Little League or maybe Van Horn Park. Dad can meet them there. There’s a big open field just for kids and dogs to run. Central Point is just one of the growing cities along the Highway 62 corridor, including Medford, White City and Eagle Point, where you can experience the energetic life of the Rogue Valley.

Surrounded by lush green forests and the meandering Rogue River, this could be your home. Close to the Rogue Valley International Airport, Central Point can be a young professional’s escape or a retired person’s dream. Fly fishing on the Rogue starts in May and goes all the way to November. Even though protected, Chinook salmon are fished abundantly this time of year. At night, in the summer, after a day of swimming or hiking, you can hear great music by current and celebrated pop artists from the past, while gazing at the stars at the outdoor theater Britt festival, just a short drive away.

Central Point is the home of the world-famous Rogue Creamery, producing cheeses for a number of tasting rooms and restaurants in the valley. At the 2019/20 World Cheese Awards in Bergamo, Italy, a panel of over 250 of the world's foremost cheese connoisseurs chose Rogue River Blue as Grand Champion – a first for an American-made cheese.

For chocolate lovers there is Lillie Belle Farms Artisan Chocolates. Looking for things to do with a growing family? During the summer months there are mountain lakes well-stocked with rainbow trout; plenty of places to fish, jet-ski, and swim. Just a few minutes away on the Rogue River, there’s whitewater rafting. Shoot the rapids. The Rogue features rapids from the humble classes 1 and 2, right up to a challenging class 7. And for those a little less adventuresome there are Rogue Jet Boat Adventures and Hellgate Excursions.

Spend a delightful afternoon or evening on the Rogue with cranes and wildlife, with a leisurely stop over for lunch or dinner. Recently, Sunset Magazine reported Kriselle Cellars, located just next door in White City to be “the pride and joy of owner- engineer Scott Steingraber” and related that visitors to the winery would benefit from the “sundrenched” fields that produce fine wines. 2Hawk vineyard, owned by Ross and Jen Allen is 30 acres of prime growing land, enveloped by cedar oak and pine nearby off North Phoenix Road in Medford. They offer tasting and a bright menu of dips, cheese, and flatbreads to accompany your wine sampling experience.

If you are semi-retired or resettling with a growing family, this region offers reasonably priced homes, wineries, hikes, biking, and dining just doors away. There are several elementary and middle schools in the region and Crater Lake High School serves 473 students with manageable classroom sizes and lots of sports opportunities including baseball, basketball, football, soccer and golf. Central Point may be just the place for you.
