About Eagle Point

Discover Eagle Point

Eagle Point could be just another small city in southern Oregon, but it just happens to be the “Gateway to the Lakes” (including the natural wonder Crater Lake just 70 miles to the east) and is also at the doorstep of the breathtaking Cascade Mountain range. In other words, this small town of 10,000 sits in one of the most beautiful hamlets in the western US – close to boating, hiking, fishing, camping and watersports, in a temperate climate no less.
This is the place to explore the wonder of nature in all its splendor and at the same time lead a quiet, rural life. Eagle Point is within a short drive to five gorgeous mountain lakes, most with fishing and camping for six months or more out of the year, including: Barton Reservoir, Fish Lake, Willow Lake, Lost Creek and of course Crater Lake.

It is an ideal place to raise children or retire. Living here would be a wise choice, that’s why Ginger Rodgers, Patrick Duffy, Zane Grey and Kim Novack made their homes here at one time or another.
The town was founded a little later than other southern Oregon towns, in 1911, and is surrounded by sprawling meadows, orchards and pastures. But it is also just 10 miles east of Interstate 5, and five miles east of Medford, a city that offers great amenities such as pubs, themed restaurants, wineries, spas and more. If you’re a golf enthusiast, you’ve found heaven. The Resort at Eagle Point has been called the best golf course in the Rogue Valley, with a gorgeous layout created by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and, as the site mentions, is “perfect for all who visit, from the rookies to the seasoned pros.”

And for those who just can’t get enough teeing off, there’s Stone Ridge Golf Club. This range offers a strategic, challenging 18-hole course with staff who have been part of the PGA. This course offers spectacular views of the surrounding foothills and Mount McLoughlin. Short of actually playing on the tour, you can’t get much better than that.

Employment opportunities are offered in all cities in southern Oregon, which are just a short commute away, including forestry, tourism, work in the medical field, social services, teaching, policing and in retirement communities.

There is a bit of romance here too. The City of Eagle Point obtained a covered bridge in 1986 and moved it to Little Butte Creek to provide a safe means for school children, pedestrians, and bicyclists to go from Royal Avenue to Shasta Avenue, and is on the National Register of Historic Places, which is adjacent to lovely Little Butte Creek Park.

The drive to Shady Cove from Eagle Point is just ten miles where you can enjoy dinner at Miguel’s and Mac’s Diner on the Rogue River. If you’re not on your way to one of the region’s lakes, there’s Schmizza Pub and Grub at home in Eagle Point. And if you love to cook, there’s also one of the best fresh meat and fresh fish markets in southern Oregon right off Highway 62 in Eagle Point, appropriately named The Butcher Shop, and described as “a cut above.”

Eagle Point hosts or is close to wineries in the region including Agate Ridge Vineyard, and Cliff Creek Cellars between Sams Valley and Gold Hill as well as several in Medford and Jacksonville, home of the Britt Festival and just a half-hour drive from Eagle Point.
A number of planned communities have sprung up over the past decade, and are close to hospitals, shopping and schools. There are two elementary and one middle school in Eagle Point, quite convenient for a rather small but friendly community. Eagle Point High School serves about 1000 students and there are a number of public and private high schools in Medford, just ten miles to the west.
