About White City

Discover White City

This widely traversed southern Oregon city lies on a beautiful, wide, open plain of rolling fertile farmland, wineries, and orchards, that expands towards Table Rock, (an area landmark to the north) and the Cascade mountains to the east. White City which began as an enclave for US soldiers in the early 40’s, sits near two major highways close to numerous shopping centers and recreational areas, yet it is just around the bend from the meandering Rogue River and beautiful TouVelle State Park. White City is also on the thoroughfare to Crater Lake, one of the world’s natural wonders, just 56 miles away.

In 1941 the U.S. Army constructed Camp White on 43,000 acres outside of Medford, Oregon as an army training camp for the 91st Infantry Division. Besides owning the proud legacy of America’s soldiers, White City has also been the home of hundreds of former soldiers at the Domiciliary, where the Veterans’ Administration has been addressing medical and other veteran needs through five major conflicts over 50 years.

With the city of Medford just minutes away the White City area opens up to the incredibly beautiful expanses of the Rogue Valley, with dozens of activities just awaiting young families and retirees alike. Two majestic buttes jutting up from the valley’s floor and plateauing at 2,000 feet above, meld into a magnificent natural monument Table Rock. It stands in timeless tribute to the Takelma peoples and other native American tribes who lived in the area for over 10,000 years and who fought valiantly in the 1850’s to defend their lands. Table Rock can be seen from many towns around the valley, even more, it can be scaled in an afternoon.
The Rogue offers white water rafting in the late spring and summer. There are several companies that offer bold opportunities to ride up to classes 4 and 5 with whitewater rafting, including Noah’s River Adventures. And for the less audacious there’s Hellgate Excursions just 20 minutes away in Grants Pass. The Rogue River offers great fishing from late August through November and a great place to catch Chinook salmon. There are short drives to mountain lakes for water skiing, cross-country skiing, fishing for rainbow trout and largemouth bass, camping and outdoor activities all year ‘round. There seems to be something for everyone in White City. There are lovely new homes on large expanses of land for 1.2 million and other spacious homes in the $500,000 to $750,000 range, also with land. There are 70’s style restored ranches just right for a growing family in the 300,000-dollar range. There are older, nicely built, cottage-style homes starting at $150,000 and townhomes ranging from the mid $250,000 to $370,000. There are several industries off Crater Lake Highway including: auto, airport, medical, gardening and farming. And it is just a short ride to the Rogue Valley International Airport with connections to Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles and Phoenix.

This is a wonderful area for a growing family that is close to major highways, factories, business districts and schools. The Jackson County Expo hosts a number of family-oriented events throughout the year including the Southern Oregon Home Show, as well as car, outdoor recreation and antique road shows. The Rogue Valley 12- acre Family Fun Center is affordable and offers hours of activities for children including an arcade, Go-Karts rides and miniature golf.

White Mountain Middle School is close to most residential areas too. Kids Unlimited Academy is a charter school on Crater Lake Highway and there’s Table Rock Elementary school. And when the kids are out of school you can take them to Kaleidoscope Pizzeria, a popular family hangout. Crime is relatively low in most southern Oregon cities. The weather is pleasant for eight months out of the year. If you and your family long for wide open spaces, newer homes and a variety of things to do, White City could be a dream-fulfilling destination.
